Australian Literary Festivals is adding an exciting new event to their line up.
A Literary camp for students. The camps are aimed at students with abilities and skills in English and art who would benefit from the extension of working with successful authors and illustrators who are experienced in teaching.
We have one planned for Central Queensland for June next year.
CAMP PROPOSAL: 5 day camp at Coolwaters Holiday Village, 760 Scenic Highway, Kinka Beach, Capricorn Coast, Queensland.
PROPOSED DATE: Monday June 19th to 23rd, 2017.
This date can be changed to suit the majority of bookings.
Year levels: Year 5 and up to Year 12.
This camp is aimed at students with abilities and skills in English and art who would benefit from the extension of working with successful authors and illustrators who are experienced in teaching.
ATTENDANCE OPTIONS: The workshops are offered on a live-in basis or a day attendance for local schools. A bus to pick up students from schools in Rockhampton and Yeppoon will organised if there are sufficient numbers to warrant it.
Students will work with 2 presenters who will guide and assist them to complete a project in the 5 days.
WORKSHOP OPTIONS: These two options will be run simultaneously with different student groups.
OPTION 1: WRITE AND ILLUSTRATE A PICTURE BOOK IN 5 DAYS:
Students will receive writing workshops on story structure and character development, and art instruction on how to compliment the words with illustrations. They will then be shown how to set up the book for printing.
They will produce a 16 page picture book which will be bound for them to take home.
The instructors for this workshop will be Aleesah Darlison and Emma Middleton. Their photos are on the side panel and their profiles are on the Festival Presenters' page.
OPTION 2: WRITE A SHORT STORY OR PRODUCE A PLOT FOR A NOVEL IN 5 DAYS:
The intensive writing workshops will cover plotting, character development, point of view, setting and how to enhance their writing to make it exciting and much more.
The students will leave the camp with a completed and edited short story or plot for a novel. The short stories will be made into an anthology after the camp that the students can purchase.
They will also have the option to attend art workshops to produce a book cover for the anthology or their story.
The presenters for this workshop are still being confirmed.
The Venue and Extra activities: The park has many attractions and is close to the Causeway Lake and the ocean for extra activities. We will also include evening activities such as fun poetry writing and reading, movie nights, a disco, song writing and entertainment from a local musician. Any student who plays an instrument is encouraged to bring it along and join in.
Afternoon activity options include the use of the park's facilities, guided bush walks with talks on the environment around the park, beach activities and canoeing on the Lake.
Cost for live-in attendees: $99.40 per student per day. Cost includes all meals, accommodation, tuition and evening entertainment. 5 days: $497 per student.
Cost for day attendees: $40.00 per student per day. Cost covers workshops only. 5 days: $200.00.
If a bus is organised, an additional cost will apply.
